i am happy to announce that there will be an anatomy and yoga workshop, taught by damien de bastier, on saturday, 12 december from 12pm – 2pm.

this workshop costs 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa).

*This workshop will cultivate an understanding of western anatomy in relation to the yogic body. With hands-on explorations, we will apply this anatomical awareness and insight to the yoga asana practice. In this session, the anatomy principles will focus primarily on the bones and muscles of the lower limbs and pelvis in order to access their maximum potential and simultaneously insure safety around the ankles, knees, and hips. Although we will be relating mostly to the ashtanga yoga practice and practitioner, this workshop is open to all levels and to practitioners of all yoga paths. PLEASE NOTE, THIS WORKSHOP WILL BE TAUGHT IN ENGLISH.
*Damien de Bastier is an ashtanga yoga practitioner and teacher, authorized by Sri K. Pattabhi Jois and R. Sharath in Mysore, India. He is also an experienced bodyworker and sees both the yoga mat and the massage table as laboratories in which we can experiment and cultivate awareness. He believes that developing sensitivity to what is experienced in the moment is the cornerstone to a healthy and vibrant life. He enjoys sharing his fascination for the body/mind connection with compassion, humor, and insight.

hip-opening workshop: sunday, 22 november 2009

i am happy to announce that there will be a hip-opening workshop, taught by amelie strecker, on sunday, 22 november from 12pm – 2:30pm.
this workshop costs 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa).

* Overcoming fear... working towards padmasana: in this workshop we will slowly and consciously work our way into our hips, exploring these dynamic and complex joints. Starting with the feet and knees and working with props and partners, we will begin to understand the actions and rotations that are required to open the hips in a healthy and gentle way.
All asana practice is a preparation for seated positions, like padmasana, so that the body no longer is a physical obstacle for meditation practice.
The hips often hold a lot of very deep seeded fears and emotions, so this will be a detoxifying and challenging class on many levels. Through the process of opening these joints and releasing these emotions and toxins, you will hopefully leave this workshop with more awareness, clarity, and a sensation of lightness.
*Amelie, born in 1976 in Berlin, was fortunate to grow up in a family with a highly developed spiritual sensibility. She has been teaching workshops, retreats and regular classes in Europe for 4 years to students of different ages and needs. In the last 10 years she has studied different Yoga styles, including: Ashtanga, Iyengar, Vinyasa, Anusara, and Viniyoga. She wholeheartedly bows down to the teachers who have crossed her path and shared their knowledge: Nicki Doane & Eddie Modestini, David Swenson, Dharma Mittra, Brian Kest, Jordi Martí, Upendra Ayra, Hojung Audenaerde, Olga Menal, etc.

it is necessary to pre-register for this workshop at: premagita@gmail.com or 600 810 741.

this workshop is for all levels… even if you can already do padmasana, one can still gain valuable insight into the way that the hips move in all of its rotations. normally many of us are more open in either the internal rotation or the external rotation of the hips. ideally we would like to have a balance between the two, which will help us in almost any asana. i hope that you will take the opportunity to attend this workshop! see you there!
take care and much love… namaste, hojung

kid's yoga workshop: saturday, 21 november 2009

i am happy to announce that there will be a kid’s yoga workshop (for kids ages 4 – 7) on saturday, 21 november, from 12pm – 2pm, taught by andrea drottholm.
the price of this workshop is 15 euros.

*This kid’s yoga workshop will introduce children to yoga using story-telling, music, and games. The movements and postures, that they will learn, relate to different animals and objects, which are based on the poses and philosophy of hatha yoga.
*The benefits of yoga for kids:
1. To develop flexibility, coordination, balance, body alignment, strength, and stamina.
2. To enhance physical, mental, and emotional health.
3. To increase concentration levels, self-discipline, inner strength, and clarity.
4. To learn breathing techniques, enabling us to face various life situations calmly and focused.
5. To learn to be respectful to and cooperative with family members and friends.
6. To promote positive communication and good listening skills, giving us compassion and understanding for others’ needs.
7. To bring the creative side out through story telling, arts and crafts, and physical movements.
8. To build self-confidence and self-esteem.
*Andrea Drottholm was born and raised in Sweden by Hungarian parents, giving her a multicultural upbringing and a great sense of openness and curiosity to learn about the world and the people who live in it. “My life mission is to assist and improve peoples’ well-being. To stay active and energetic is also part of my well-being. I have practiced Ashtanga yoga with great discipline for the last 4 years. For me, yoga is an excellent tool to teach some of the most important aspects of life, in which one can learn self-love and discover one’s true nature. I have tried teaching children using various methods, and find the best way is through movement and music. I look forward to embracing children from all walks of life and ages to come and learn yoga!”

autumn yin yoga workshop - saturday, 31 october 2009

i am happy to announce that there will be an autumn yin yoga workshop taught by kathy paez on saturday, 31 october from 11am – 1pm.
the cost is 20 euros.
it is necessary to reserve a place, as space is limited: kathypaez@gmail.com or 617 672 872.

*Yin Yoga is mainly composed of Hatha yoga postures, which are passively held for 3 to 5 min. Its main objective is to stretch fascia and connective tissue, to explore range of motion from the joints, and to open certain energy channels.
*This workshop has been specifically designed to work with the meridians and organs, which can suffer from imbalances in autumn, in order to prepare ourselves holistically for the change of seasons.

because the ashtanga yoga practice can quite often be a very yang or masculine practice, yin yoga can be a nice complementary practice to it. with the change of seasons, it is good to become aware of our own internal shifts and take the opportunity to learn how we can prepare and integrate ourselves for a smooth and healthy transition.
i hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and to see you in the workshop! take care and see you soon! much love and peace… namaste, hojung

full moon yin yoga workshop - 4 october 2009

i am happy to announce that there will be a yin yoga workshop on the full moon, sunday, 4 october, taught by kathy paez… the workshop will be from 11am – 1pm… the cost is 20 euros…
it is necessary to reserve a place, as space is limited: kathy@yogambient.com or 617 672 872…

*Yin Yoga is mainly composed of Hatha yoga postures, which are passively held for 3 to 5 min.
*Its main objective is to stretch fascia and connective tissue, to explore range of motion from the joints, and to open certain energy channels.
*The end of the session will be dedicated to learning Chandra Namaskar (moon salutations).
*Some refer to this practice as Chinese Yoga or Tao Yoga but Yin Yoga wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for a variety of people, some of who are not Asian. Paul Grilley is one of its important founders. He studied under Paulie Zink, master of martial arts and Yin Yoga. Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama also influenced Paul by teaching him about the meridian theory energy channels and their relation to certain body organs, just as in acupuncture. Paul’s wife Suzie Grilley teaches along side him and his student (now teacher) Sarah Powers has given her own Buddhist and Vipassana influences to Yin Yoga.
*Kathy Paez was born in Costa Rica and has been living in Barcelona since 2000. Her origins in Hatha Yoga come from her practice and training with Yoga Studio Barcelona, where she also worked and taught for two and half years She now practices and teaches Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga in a style inspired by the great teachers she has been able to practice with, including: Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, Shiva Rea, Hojung Audenaerde, Nick Evans, Eva Oller, Petri Raisanen, Tomas Zorzo, Xavier y Pilar (Yoga Estudio), among others. She is grateful to all those who have enabled her to find her path.

because the ashtanga yoga practice can quite often be a very yang or masculine practice, yin yoga can be a nice complementary practice to it… the moon days, in general, are an opportunity to take rest from the asana practice of ashtanga yoga and to begin to cultivate a more internal, meditative practice… i hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and to see you in the workshop!
take care and see you soon! much love and peace… namaste, hojung
