i am happy to announce that there will be a yin yoga workshop on the full moon, sunday, 4 october, taught by kathy paez… the workshop will be from 11am – 1pm… the cost is 20 euros…
it is necessary to reserve a place, as space is limited: kathy@yogambient.com or 617 672 872…
*Yin Yoga is mainly composed of Hatha yoga postures, which are passively held for 3 to 5 min.
*Its main objective is to stretch fascia and connective tissue, to explore range of motion from the joints, and to open certain energy channels.
*The end of the session will be dedicated to learning Chandra Namaskar (moon salutations).
*Some refer to this practice as Chinese Yoga or Tao Yoga but Yin Yoga wouldn’t be what it is today if it weren’t for a variety of people, some of who are not Asian. Paul Grilley is one of its important founders. He studied under Paulie Zink, master of martial arts and Yin Yoga. Dr. Hiroshi Motoyama also influenced Paul by teaching him about the meridian theory energy channels and their relation to certain body organs, just as in acupuncture. Paul’s wife Suzie Grilley teaches along side him and his student (now teacher) Sarah Powers has given her own Buddhist and Vipassana influences to Yin Yoga.
*Kathy Paez was born in Costa Rica and has been living in Barcelona since 2000. Her origins in Hatha Yoga come from her practice and training with Yoga Studio Barcelona, where she also worked and taught for two and half years She now practices and teaches Yin Yoga and Vinyasa Yoga in a style inspired by the great teachers she has been able to practice with, including: Sarah Powers, Paul Grilley, Shiva Rea, Hojung Audenaerde, Nick Evans, Eva Oller, Petri Raisanen, Tomas Zorzo, Xavier y Pilar (Yoga Estudio), among others. She is grateful to all those who have enabled her to find her path.
because the ashtanga yoga practice can quite often be a very yang or masculine practice, yin yoga can be a nice complementary practice to it… the moon days, in general, are an opportunity to take rest from the asana practice of ashtanga yoga and to begin to cultivate a more internal, meditative practice… i hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and to see you in the workshop!
take care and see you soon! much love and peace… namaste, hojung
