i am happy to announce that there will be a workshop focusing in sirsasana (headstand) and sarvangasana (shoulder stand), taught by amelie strecker, on sunday, 9 may from 12pm – 2:30pm.
this workshop costs 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa or for those who have done a workshop with us before).
*This workshop is ideal for all yoga practitioners who would like to gain a deeper understanding of sirsasana (headstand) and sarvangasana (shoulderstand), which are considered to be the king and queen of yoga asanas.
*After a theoretical explanation about the benefits of these inverted postures, we will begin with the physical practice, liberating blocked energy through a series of seated poses and working with the marma points (energy points in ayurveda, the system of traditional Indian medicine) in our feet, shoulders, and neck area.
*We will then embark on a preparatory sequence in which we will focus on awakening the consciousness in the legs and toes. Step by step, we will move on to some arm strengthening poses, which will help us to enter and come out of these poses safely. As we slowly begin to move upside down, we will learn the necessary physical tools required to engage these postures with ease, observing how we can transform the fear of being upside down and losing control into a liberating and empowering experience.
it is necessary to pre-register for this workshop at: premagita@gmail.com or 600 810 741.
i hope that you will take the opportunity to attend this workshop! see you there!
take care and much love… namaste, hojung

may news 2010
hi everyone!
i hope that you all are enjoying spring and the warmer weather… it is wonderful to feel the expansiveness in the mind, body, and spirit! i’m glad to see so many of you coming back to class and recommitting to the practice and also to see all the new people who have joined this month! now that the obstacles of winter, the cold, and the darkness have receded into the past, we have the new obstacle of the construction/ road works on calle portaferrissa… luckily those of you, who practice very early in the morning, continue to enjoy the silence of that time of day, but definitely later, the noise levels are challenging… it is definitely a good practice in trying to maintain a focus and concentration of silence and peacefulness within the chaos! in this case, i welcome the impermanent nature of the universe and hope that the works will end sooner than later!
here is the shala news for may:
1. the teaching transition has gone smoothly and i’m very glad to offer this present group of teachers and assistants: aleix griƱo, nick fenn, tere castillo, vero fernandez, and sasha tueva. as many of you may have already noticed, sasha is the newest addition to our staff and has been recently assisting in the mornings and led classes. she has practiced many years in mysore, india with guruji and r. sharath and has their teaching authorization. she also completed a 2 year teacher training program with certified ashtanga teacher, john scott. please welcome her and, as always, feel free to give me any feedback!
2. there will be a workshop, focusing on sirsasana (headstand) and sarvangasana (shoulderstand), with amelie strecker on sunday, 9 may, from 12pm – 2:30pm. you will be receiving more information about this workshop soon.
3. there will be an introduction to ashtanga yoga workshop on the weekend of 29 – 30 may from 12pm – 2pm. please spread the word and encourage interested friends or yoga beginners to join!
4. for those of you who have not been practicing lately and do not plan to return to class for the month of may, please come to the studio and collect your yoga mat. i will be doing a general spring cleaning of the yoga mats soon to create more space. so come by and pick up your mat, or contact me with your practice intentions, or better yet take this month as an opportunity to come back to class and reconnect with your practice!
i think that this is all the news for now. as always, i thank you all for your continued dedication to the practice. it is wonderful to see your focus, perseverance, and enthusiasm! likewise, i continue to be devoted to providing a sacred space committed to the best teaching possible in the tradition of guruji and sharath and also the closest mysore experience possible. take care and see you soon!

spring cleansing yin yoga workshop: saturday, 17 april 2010
i am happy to announce that there will be a spring cleansing yin yoga workshop next saturday, 17 april, taught by kathy paez. the workshop will be from 11am – 1:30pm and the cost is 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa or for those who have done a workshop with us previously).
it is necessary to reserve in advance as space is limited: kathypaez@gmail.com or 617 672 872.
*In this workshop, we will explore movements that help to unblock and purify the liver and pancreas. You will learn which emotions relate to these organs and why it is necessary to strengthen and balance them out in Spring.
*We will also focus on opening the hips and the meridians (energy lines) which run through the abductors and inner thighs.
*We will end the session with the mandala namaskar and a guided relaxation.
*Yin Yoga is mainly composed of Hatha yoga postures, which are passively held for 2 to 7 minutes. Its main objective is to stretch fascia and connective tissue, to explore range of motion from the joints, and to open certain energy channels.
if you have never tried yin yoga, i hope that you will do so, because it can be a nice complementary experience to the ashtanga yoga practice. i find the static nature of yin yoga to be a very powerful practice which works on many subtle, different levels physically, mentally, and emotionally. i hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and to see you in the workshop!
