october news 2010

i hope that everyone has been settling back into their work and/ or school routines with ease… here is the october news:

1. please remember that we now have MID-DAY MYSORE-STYLE CLASSES on TUESDAYS and THURSDAYS from 2pm – 3:30pm.

2. please note that this month only the new moon will affect the class schedule: THURSDAY, 7 OCTOBER. there will be NO class on this day.

3. TUESDAY, 12 OCTOBER, is a public holiday and on this day, the normal schedule of classes will be canceled. there will be a MORNING LED class at 10am and an EVENING LED class at 6:30pm. please arrive 10 minutes early so that we can start on time. if you can’t usually attend the led classes on friday evenings or sunday mornings, try to take the opportunity to come to the led classes offered on public holidays, as it will help refine your practice and vinyasas.

4. there will be a “tri-dosha” ayurveda & yoga workshop, with amelie strecker, on saturday, 16 october, from 12pm – 2:30pm & sunday, 17 october, from 12pm – 2:30pm and 4:30pm – 6pm. you will be receiving more information about this workshop soon.

5. there will be an autumn yin yoga workshop with kathy paez on sunday, 24 october, from 12pm – 2:30pm. i will be sending out more information about this workshop closer to the date.

6. for those of you who leave your yoga mats, cotton mats, and/ or towels at the shala, please remember to take them home once in awhile to wash. this should be done at least once a month, and more, if you happen to sweat alot or happen to find any of these items to be smelly.

7. this sunday, 3 october, there will be satsang at 11:45am, after the led class. this is an opportunity for us to come together and to speak about some aspects of the ashtanga yoga practice that are not being addressed in the daily classes. also, it will be an occasion in which one can raise any questions or issues that one has surrounding the practice. it will last about an hour. please note, that this satsang is free, but is only open to monthly students of casaAbhyasa – ashtanga yoga barcelona. i hope that you will take the time to come to this, as the ashtanga practice is much more than the asanas (physical postures). it is also a nice opportunity to bring everyone together and maintain our sense of community as practitioners.

during these times of unrest, uncertainty, and transition, that perhaps we feel either on a personal level or as a society, the practice can be a useful and comforting tool in grounding us and providing solace and inner peace. the shala is a space that has been created for that purpose… it is a refuge and sacred space in which we can share, focus, and transform our energies… i hope that you all feel the benefits of the practice in your lives and that it is bringing you some joy and peace.

i hope to see you in class soon! take care… with gratitude, much love and peace… namaste, hojung

yin yoga workshop - “earth + water: grounding and flowing into the new work year”: sunday, 19 september 2010

i am happy to announce that there will be a yin yoga workshop: “earth + water: grounding and flowing into the new work year” on sunday, 19 september, taught by kathy paez. the workshop will be from 12pm – 2:30pm and the cost is 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa or for those who have done a workshop with us previously).

it is necessary to reserve in advance as space is limited: kathypaez@gmail.com or 617 672 872.

*We will explore a practice consisting of static postures (earth, Yin) combined with dynamic, gentle, and fluid movements (water).
*The movements and postures will stimulate the first 2 chakras (energy centers: muladhara and svadhisthana chakra) which coordinate with our internal earth and water elements.
*We will learn which meridians and emotions are associated with these energy centers and how to observe and know if there are any imbalances.
*The most important meridians that we will focus on in this workshop are: the bladder, kidneys, and the urinary-genital system. We will work on postures which stretch the front and the back of the body and the inner seams of the legs.

*Yin Yoga is mainly composed of Hatha yoga postures, which are passively held for 2 to 7 minutes and soft vinyasa transitions between certain postures. Its main objective is to stretch fascia and connective tissue, to explore range of motion from the joints, and to open certain energy channels.

if you have never tried yin yoga, i hope that you will do so, because it can be a nice complementary experience to the ashtanga yoga practice. i find the static nature of yin yoga to be a very powerful practice which works on many subtle, different levels physically, mentally, and emotionally. i hope that you will take advantage of this unique opportunity and to see you in the workshop!

take care and see you soon! much love and peace... namaste, hojung
