thank you to all of you who participated in the 108 sun salutations for guru purnima and attended the satsang! it was a wonderful effort by all and a nice opportunity to share a bit about guruji, his life, and teaching! here is the august news:
1. we will be open the whole month of august, but the MORNING MYSORE CLASSES will start 1 HOUR LATER:
* morning mysore class will be from 8am – 12pm.
the EVENING and LED CLASS SCHEDULE will remain the SAME:
* mysore classes from monday – thursday from 6pm – 9pm
* the friday led class starting at 6:30pm (please arrive 10 minutes early)
* the sunday led class starting at 10am (please arrive 10 minutes early)
please remember that the led MID-DAY CLASSES on tuesday and thursday will be CANCELED for AUGUST.
2. please note that BOTH moon days are on TUESDAY this month: 10 AUGUST and 24 AUGUST. there will be NO class on these days.
3. also there will be NO class on SUNDAY, 15 AUGUST, because it is a public holiday.
4. i know a lot of you will be taking your summer holidays in august. in addition to the normal monthly prices: unlimited classes for 100 euros; 3 times a week (12 class monthly pack) for 75 euros, or twice a week (8 class monthly pack) for 60 euros, please remember that there is also the option to do single classes for 12 euros each, a 4-class pack for 44 euros, or a 5-class pack for 50 euros for the time that you will be here in barcelona.
5. as i think all of you know by now, i will be away from 1 – 22 august. in my absence the morning classes will be taught by aleix (8am – 10am) and vero (10am – 12pm). nick and aleix will continue to teach the evening classes. i will start teaching again on monday, 23 august.
6. just to let you all know, this will be the last month that nick will be teaching with us, so that he will be able to focus on some life and work transitions and also his own practice. he has been a very important part of our teaching team this past year and we wish him all the best! thank you, nick!
7. for those of you who will be away for some or all of august, please take your cotton yoga mat and towel home to wash. (in general, please wash your cotton mat at least once a month and your towel at least once a week, or more if you sweat alot... thank you!)
8. thank you everyone for drying the area around your mat with your towel when you have finished your practice! please continue to do so during these hot months so that the area is dry and clean for the following student coming into that space. thank you!
9. please also remember the importance of rehydrating and replenishing the body with the necessary vitamins, minerals, and salt during these summer months. a very important part of the practice is the elimination of toxins by sweating, and in order to facilitate this process, it is crucial to keep the body well-hydrated and nourished.
10. it is also very important to listen to your body and energy levels as they change daily especially in this heat. practice what feels right on any given day, but remember also that a little bit of practice is better than none, especially when one’s energy feels stagnant... dedication, consistency, discipline, and perseverance are all important elements of this practice.
i was very touched by the e-mails and well-wishes that i received from everyone in response to my letter about my trip to mt. kailash. i will let you know all about it when i return! enjoy your summer and vacations!

guru purnima & satsang: sunday, 25 july 2010
i just want to let you know that we will be celebrating guru purnima this sunday, 25 july. guru purnima is the day in which we celebrate and give thanks to our teachers and lineage of gurus, and also when we reflect and review our progress on our spiritual path and renew our focus. it is also the day in which we celebrated guruji’s (sri k. pattabhi jois) birthday.
instead of a normal led class, we will be doing a class of 108 led sun salutations as our offering. we will begin at 10am and after we have finished there will be satsang. satsang in sanskrit is derived from 2 words: sat = true & sanga = company and in indian philosophy means a spiritual discourse or sacred gathering for those who want to listen to, talk about, and assimilate the "highest truth". most of all, i just want to have an opportunity for us to come together and to speak about some aspects of the ashtanga yoga practice that are not being addressed in the daily classes. also, it will be an occasion in which one can raise any questions or issues that one has surrounding the practice.
you may come and join in on the sun salutations and satsang and leave when you choose. please note, that this guru purnima and satsang are only open to monthly students of casaAbhyasa – ashtanga yoga barcelona and is free to those of you have paid your monthly fees or already attended class this month. for those of you who haven’t and would like to attend, please leave a small donation (if you can and want to).

structural integration workshop & demonstration: sunday, 18 july 2010
i am happy to announce that there will be a structural integration workshop & demonstration next sunday, 18 july, taught by santiago pinto. the workshop will be from 12pm – 2pm and the cost is 10 euros. please note that this will be an informational workshop only, providing an introduction to the rolfing method and what is usually entailed in a treatment session.

*Structural Integration or Rolfing is a hands-on technique, which enhances body awareness and corrects imbalances, improving one’s posture to help achieve a greater sense of well-being and perform to one’s full potential. It’s a perfect companion for Yoga practitioners and will help in deepening one’s practice.
*In this workshop, we will explain how we analyze body patterns and the inherent possibilities that may be achieved through this technique. We will also look at some videos to understand some of the underlying principles of the structural integration system.
*During this workshop, we will perform an introductory session on a volunteer (worth 50€) to demonstrate this technique. As in Yoga, breathing is the core. The first session in Structural Integration works to free up the breathing. Each session nor-mally starts with an evaluation of the client, both walking and standing still, after which specific therapeutic goals are set. The client then receives treatments on a massage table. The full experience of structural integration is composed of ten treatment sessions. All participants of the workshop, who sign up for the 10 session treatment process or for individual sessions, will receive a discount.
*The benefits gained through Structural Integration are both physical and psycho-logical. People often appear slimmer and taller after the process. Pain and discomfort are frequently alle-viated. One attains improved balance, a feeling of lightness, and an increased breathing capacity.
*Santiago Pinto studied in SaƵ Paulo, Brasil at the International School of Structural Integration, under the guidance of Nilce Silveira. He also has a certificate in Classic Swedish Massage as well in Acupressure Massage. He is a member of the IASI. He currently works in Barcelona and Stockholm.

in july, the class schedule will continue as normal, but please remember that the led MID-DAY CLASSES on tuesday and thursday will be CANCELED for the summer months of JULY and AUGUST. here is the rest of the july news:
1. i know a lot of you will be taking your summer holidays and if you will be vacationing for some of the time in either of these months, please let me know.
for the time that you will be here in barcelona, you are free to do single classes for 12 euros each or pay the normal monthly prices: unlimited classes for 100 euros; 3 times a week (12 class monthly pack) for 75 euros, or twice a week (8 class monthly pack) for 60 euros.
2. there will be a nutrition workshop:“eating for well-being” with camila loew on sunday, 4 july, from 12pm – 2pm. please pre-register now to save your place!
3. there will be a workshop/ demonstration about structural integration (rolfing) with santiago pinto on sunday, 18 july from 12pm – 2pm. you will be receiving more information about this soon.
4. please note that the moon days this month are on SUNDAY, 11 JULY and MONDAY, 26 JULY. there will be NO class on these days.
5. thank you everyone for drying the area around your mat with your towel when you have finished your practice! please continue to do so during these hot months so that the area is dry and clean for the following student coming into that space.
