december news 2010

i just want to let you know a few things about december’s class schedule:

1. please note that the moon days this month are on SUNDAY, 5 DECEMBER, and TUESDAY, 21 DECEMBER. there will be NO class on these days.

2. MONDAY, 6 DECEMBER and WEDNESDAY, 8 DECEMBER are public holidays and the normal schedule of classes will be canceled on these days. there will ONLY be a LED CLASS at 10am. please arrive 10 minutes early so that we can start on time.

3. on TUESDAY, 7 DECEMBER, the class schedule will be NORMAL for the MORNING and EVENING classes, but the MIDDAY class will be CANCELED.

4. the shala will continue to be open with its REGULAR SCHEDULE until FRIDAY MORNING, 24 DECEMBER. FRIDAY EVENING’S CLASS on 24 DECEMBER will be CANCELED.

5. there will be NO class on SUNDAY, 26 DECEMBER.

6. we will be open from MONDAY, 27 DECEMBER until THURSDAY, 30 DECEMBER with a reduced schedule: there will be only morning classes from 9am – 12pm (entry: 9am –10:30am).

7. on FRIDAY, 31 DECEMBER, there will only be a LED CLASS at 10am… please arrive 10 minutes early so that we can start on time.

8. depending on what your holiday plans are, you may pay for your december classes accordingly: single classes at 12 euros each; 4 class pack = 44 euros; 5-class pack = 50 euros; 2 classes/ week (8 classes/month) = 60 euros; 3 classes/week (12 classes/month) = 75 euros; or unlimited classes = 100 euros. please remember that these monthly rates are non-refundable and that it is your responsibility to use the classes within the same month.

9. on saturday, 18 december, there will be a workshop on healthy winter cooking with camila loew from 11:30am – 13:30am. I will send you more information about this workshop shortly, but it is essential to pre-register, because of the rental of the kitchen space.

10. during these cold months, when entering and exiting the shala, please close the door well (without locking it) as to keep the warm air in and cold air out… likewise, the doors to the practice room should always be kept closed in order to retain the heat. thank you!

yin yoga workshop - earth element: sunday, 28 december 2010

i am happy to announce that there will be a yin yoga: “earth element” workshop on sunday, 28 november, from 12pm – 2:30pm, taught by kathy paez.

* To balance the excessiveness that can accompany the holidays: stomach and spleen meridians.
* Most of the poses will focus on opening the back of the body, especially the quadriceps.
* The emotion, anxiety, which is associated with these meridians.
* It will be a very still practice: helping us to reaffirm our intentions as we approach the holidays in order to maintain our inner peace and balance.
* Beginners and all level of practitioners welcome!

cost: 30 euros (25 euros for students of casaAbhyasa or for those who have done a workshop with us previously).

introduction to zen meditation: sunday, 21 november 2010

i am pleased to announce that there will be an introduction to zen meditation workshop on sunday, 21 november, from 12pm – 2pm, taught by laia monserrat.

cost: 25 euros (20 euros for students of casaAbhyasa or for those who have done a workshop with us previously).

WOULD YOU LIKE TO LEARN WHAT ZEN IS?

There are many different zen lineages. Zen meditation in the tradition of K. G. Dürckheim proposes a non-dogmatic zen for western laypeople.

* In this workshop, we will talk about what zen is, its origins and the benefits of practicing this ancient technique called the direct way or the way of action in these contemporary times.
* In this introduction, we will teach you the meditation posture and appropriate internal attitude, both mental and emotional, and we will practice meditation exercises: sitting in silence and walking meditation.
* It is necessary to bring comfortable clothes (no sports clothes or jeans) preferably in subdued colors.

* Laia Monserrat: clinical psychologist, master in Brief Strategic Therapy and educated in Leibtherapie Personale (psycho-physical psychotherapy, in the Dürckheim method). Authorized to teach zen in this tradition since 1989, she had a meditation center in Barcelona for 14 years, after which she moved to France for 8 years. Now she has returned to Barcelona, where she continues to offer her zen teachings and psychotherapy practice.

november news 2010

so, autumn is definitely here: colder temperatures and shorter days. remember that it us natural for the body and being to go into a more contractive state during this season. please be aware of your internal changes and practice accordingly. the dynamic nature of the ashtanga practice helps us to generate heat and cultivate our inner fire and a feeling of expansiveness during these cold months… here is the november news:

1. please remember that MONDAY, 1 NOVEMBER is a public holiday. The normal schedule of classes will be canceled and there will ONLY be a LED CLASS at 10am. Please arrive 10 minutes early, so that we can start on time. if you can’t usually attend the led classes on friday evenings or sunday mornings, try to take the opportunity to come to the led classes offered on public holidays, as it will help refine your practice and vinyasas.

2. please note that this month only the full moon will affect the class schedule: SUNDAY, 21 NOVEMBER. there will be NO led class on this day.

3. on saturday 13th November from 11am - 12.30pm, there will be a benefit carbon neutral yoga class with kathy paez and heloise buckland to promote environmental awareness and carbon emission consciousness. more information about this workshop to come shortly.

4. there will be an introduction to zen meditation workshop with laia monserrat on sunday, 21 november, from 12pm – 2pm. i will be sending out more information about this workshop soon.

5. there will be a yin yoga workshop with kathy paez on sunday, 28 november, from 12pm – 2:30pm. you will be receiving more information about this workshop closer to the date.

6. on sunday, 7 november, there will be satsang at 11:45am, after the led class. this is an opportunity for us to come together and to speak about some aspects of the ashtanga yoga practice that are not being addressed in the daily classes. also, it will be an occasion in which one can raise any questions or issues that one has surrounding the practice. it will last about an hour. please note, that this satsang is free, but is only open to monthly students of casaAbhyasa – ashtanga yoga barcelona. i hope that you will take the time to come to this, as the ashtanga practice is much more than the asanas (physical postures). it is also a nice opportunity to bring everyone together and maintain our sense of community as practitioners.
