In this “water element” yin yoga workshop:
* We will learn the fundamentals and principles of Yin Yoga.
* We will explore the meridians (energy channels) which can suffer imbalances during the winter season: kidneys and bladder.
* Work on understanding the emotions behind these meridians: from fear to courage.
* Practice of forward bends and light backends.
* Practitioners of all levels welcome!

ashtanga yoga workshop: “alignment of the standing postures” - saturday, 22 october 2011
i am happy to announce that we will be offering a workshop on the fundamentals and alignment of the standing poses of ashtanga yoga on SATURDAY, 22 OCTOBER, taught by aleix griño, from 10am – 1pm: theory & practice class followed by a led class of the standing postures, focusing on the elements learned.

In this workshop we will work on the details and alignment of the foundation asanas of ashtanga yoga: the standing pose sequence. It will be a good opportunity in which to deepen the alignment, bandhas and drishtis of this sequence.
* Postural reeducation through the correct foundation of the feet and legs, the hips as the center of the body, and the spinal action in each posture.
* The bandhas and their engagement in this sequence.
* Alignment through the breath.
* Balance, release, and tension in the posture.
* Modifications for injuries.

zen meditation session: sunday, 16 october 2011
i am pleased to announce that we will be offering a zen meditation session on SUNDAY, 16 OCTOBER, from 12pm – 2pm, taught by laia monserrat.
cost: 20 euros

There are many different zen lineages. Zen meditation in the tradition of K. G. Dürckheim proposes a non-dogmatic zen for western laypeople.
* In this session, we will talk about what zen is, its origins and the benefits of practicing this ancient technique called the “direct way” or “the way of action” in these contemporary times.
* We will teach you the meditation posture and appropriate internal attitude, both mental and emotional, and we will practice meditation exercises: sitting in silence and walking meditation.
* It is necessary to bring comfortable clothes (no sports clothes or jeans) preferably in subdued colors.
* This session is open to everyone... to those who have never meditated before and would like to learn about zen and to those who would like to deepen their meditation practice.
* Laia Monserrat: clinical psychologist, master in Brief Strategic Therapy and educated in Leibtherapie Personale (psycho-physical psychotherapy, in the Dürckheim method). Authorized to teach zen in this tradition since 1989.

october news 2011
the extension of our shala schedule has gone really well and i hope that it has been useful for all of you! during these times of unrest, uncertainty, and transition, that perhaps we feel either on a personal level or as a society, the practice can be a useful and comforting tool in grounding us and providing solace and inner peace. the shala is a space that has been created for that purpose… it is a refuge and sacred space in which we can share, focus, and transform our energies. i hope that you all feel the benefits of the practice in your lives and that it is bringing you some joy and peace... here is the october news:
1. please remember that the shala schedule is:
* morning mysore classes: 7am – 1pm. (entry from 7am – 11:30am).
* evening mysore classes: MONDAY – THURSDAY: 5pm – 9pm (entry from 5pm – 7:30pm); FRIDAY: 5pm – 8pm (entry from 5pm – 6:30pm).
* SUNDAY led class: 10am.
2. please note that the moon days this month are: WEDNESDAY, 12 OCTOBER and WEDNESDAY, 26 OCTOBER. there will be NO class on these days.
3. on SUNDAY, 16 OCTOBER, from 12pm – 2pm, there will be a zen meditation workshop led by laia monserrat. you will be receiving more information shortly.
4. on SATURDAY, 22 OCTOBER, from 10am – 1pm, aleix griño will be giving a workshop on the fundamentals of ashtanga yoga, focusing on the standing postures. i will be sending you more information soon.
5. the WEEKEND of 29 & 30 OCTOBER from 12pm – 2pm there will be an introduction to ashtanga yoga workshop with veronica fernandez. please spread the word and encourage interested friends or family to join!
6. for those of you who leave your yoga mats, cotton mats, and/ or towels at the shala, please remember to take them home once in awhile to wash. this should be done at least once a month, and more, if you happen to sweat alot or happen to find any of these items to be smelly. thank you!
i hope that everyone has been settling back into their work and/ or school routines with ease and that you are all enjoying these beautiful autumn days…
